Good to know
Go with a licensed operator
For dunes and Khor Al Adaid, book a licensed 4x4 tour; never attempt dune driving yourself.
Start early
Leave after breakfast and be back before dark; desert roads are unlit.
Pack for the sun
Water, hats, sunscreen and closed shoes; fuel and shops are sparse in the north and west.
Check the wind
Strong shamal winds can cancel kayaking and boat trips; keep a flexible day.
