Before you go
Dress modestly in public
Cover shoulders and knees in souqs, malls and museums. Swimwear belongs at the beach or pool.
Use the metro
Three clean, cheap lines; tap a travel card in and out. Gold Club carriages cost more and are quieter.
Ride-hailing is easy
Karwa taxis are metered; Uber and the Karwa app work well. Short rides are inexpensive.
Respect the heat
Even in November the midday sun is strong. Drink water, wear a hat and plan shade between stops.
Friday rhythm
Friday is the weekly holiday. Shops close around midday prayers, the metro starts later and museums open in the afternoon.
Ask before photos
Ask before photographing people, especially women and families, and avoid government and military buildings.
Know the alcohol law
Alcohol is served only in licensed hotel venues. Do not bring it into the country or drink in public.
Public behaviour
Keep affection discreet, avoid loud arguments and do not swear or make rude gestures in public.
Pack a light layer
Malls and the metro are cool, and late-November evenings by the water can feel breezy.
Cards everywhere
Cards and phone payments are accepted almost everywhere; keep a few riyals for souq stalls and karak stands.
Stay connected
Buy a local SIM or eSIM at the airport; WhatsApp is the easiest way to confirm bookings.
Check museum days
Each museum closes one weekday and keeps shorter Friday hours. Check qm.org.qa before you go.
Doha is one of the safest cities in the region. Follow local laws and dress codes, and check the entry rules for your passport before you travel.
